Sitting (position) *Hip* Maya :D

-------------------

I aimed to embody the present Philippines with this deviation.

.] In the Philippines, fashion is in limbo between being conservative and showing a bit more flesh/ between traditional and modernity.

.] Technology is ever-growing, however in a slower pace than other countries. (That's a portable e-fan she's holding up beside her face, just in case you couldn't recognize it. It's not a flower. :XD:~)

.] She is posed similar to how the Philippines look like in the map.

.] Her dress is themed with the national flag, (albeit it's in pink and light blue ^^;~), with three stars, and a sun. Accented with a pearl necklace symbolizing "Pearl of the Orient."

.] I was ever-so-slightly taken aback when *daMEAT chose a maid/waitress as a mascot. Thinking about it, I remember being told by our high school adviser that the word "filipino" (spelled not as a proper noun) is defined as "domestic helper" in the Webster's dictionary. I checked a Webster's dictionary then and was stunned to see that it was indeed so. (I believe they've updated that.) We couldn't blame Webster and Co though, because just as the Americans were moving in our country before, we really weren't that popular. (Tourists then went to the Philippines because they were curious about "these Filipinos." True. Ask Lolo Sionil Jose.)

Filipino popularity increased when OFWs started spilling all over the world, especially those who work as domestic helpers. The usage of sentences with "your filipino" (e.g. "Is she your filipino?") made it inevitable for the term "filipino" to be synonymous with "domestic helper."

It has been established in our mentality that to work abroad is the best opportunity. To escape this smokey mountain of a country. I mean, we even get ourselves trained for several years/ months just to "serve," hoping to be of service to foreigners. I'm not totally against that, but I do wish that fact would shift somewhat.

So in leiu with that, I dressed Maya as a Filipino who is happy to share a piece of what she has--- not as a maid/ waitress merely serving a piece of meat. :thanks:

..] There's no BG because I wanted it to be flexible and recyclable to other BGs. Besides, this is just a dress-up contest. ;p

..] In contrast to my other entry, this one still has hang-over from my pixellating.. It's hard to detoxify myself of what I've gotten used to.. I almost wanted to do this with pixels originally.

..] If you see something you believe you made in this deviation (daMeat type font/ brush/ shape/ etc), I give you full credit! Thanks for sharing! :w00t!:
